FAQ'S

How much do you charge?

Each booking is priced according to the event's location and timings (ie setup/start/finish). Prices quoted are usually based on a set up time not before 6pm and finish no later than midnight. Early set up times, before sit-down meal for example, can incur an extra charge.

Standard price covers venues within M25 (London). Travel for outside this area is charged at the HMRC rate per mile per car.

How much time do you need to set up?

We normally ask for an hour to set up and sound check. This varies from venue depending on ease of access. It can often take longer in Marquess due to their location. For a wedding the band normally set up once speeches are completed and the room si cleared. This allows guests to stretch their legs and chat to other guests.

How much space does the band need?

A safe and sturdy performance area no smaller than 16' x 12'. A stable regulated 240V AC power supply with minimum of two 13amp sockets within an easy reach of the performance area.

Will we need to feed the band?

When we are performing at an event our working day is often 12 hours or more, so yes please. We also realise a full meal for the band cost you more money, So, providing hot meals or feeding us from the buffet is usually sufficient. The only thing we do ask is that you provide us is soft drinks and tea/coffee. For travel over two hours from London hot food is required.

Will you learn our first dance and perform it for us?

Most certainly... ideally given at least 6 weeks notice, we will learn the song of your choice and perform it as your first dance. In our "Repertoire" section you can find a long selection of 1st dances we already know and will be happy to perform.

Is it possible to have music being played over the PA in between the band's sets?

Definitely! From the moment the PA system is set up at the venue, the band will play a selection of party music on mp3's for the breaks in between their live sets in place of a DJ.

Will you bring everything you need?

We are a completely self-sufficient act, which supplies all sound equipment and stage lighting as part of their fee. This is suitable for most venues up to a capacity of 250-300 people.

Should a larger PA system be required the band will happily arrange this and can obtain a very competitive price from their suppliers due to the large number of gigs they play each year. The band can also arrange more elaborate lighting systems if required.

Can you perform songs that are not listed in your repertiore?

Yes, for a small fee per song, we will learn any particular songs that are not in our standard repertoire and perform the for you at your event. To view the full list of songs that we normally choose from, check out the repertoire page.

Is it possible to choose specific songs from your repertoire to be played on the day?

Yes, we can play any song/s from our repertoire that you would specifically and definitely like to hear, and will always be there to give advice in regards to what we think will work the best to suit your guests.

How long do you typically play for?

Normally we split our performance into either 2 sets of 60 minutes each or 3 sets of 40 minutes each, bringing the total playing time to two hours in each case. However, we would be more than happy to discuss performing differently timed sets that are specifically tailored to your event. Furthermore, for an additional fee, we can play extra 30 or 60 min set on top of our standard two hours.

Are you available as different line-ups?

The HYPS most popular lineup are:

5-piece (Drums, Bass guitar, Guitar, Keyboards, 1 x Female vocalist)

6-piece (Drums, Bass guitar, Guitar, Keyboards, 1 x Female vocalist, 1 x Male vocalist)

The band can be extended up to a 9 piece line up with an extra horn section (Sax / Trumpet / Trombone) or any other particular lineups can be discussed and arranged for your special day.

Where are you based? And which areas do you travel to?

We are based in London, but we are more than happy to travel and play at venues all across the UK or even abroad.

Are you available at short notice?

Yes, we could normally play the next day if we are available.

Do you hold Public Liability Insurance?

Yes, we have full PL Insurance, certificate available upon request.

Are all of your instruments PAT tested?

Yes, we do. All our equipment is tested and we hold certificates if needed. You can feel assured you are safe in our hands.

How do we book the band?

Once you are happy with the quote provided we will issue you with a contract, which needs to be signed and returned with a 20% deposit. The balance is required in full 2 weeks before your event.

Why are you more expensive that some other bands?

Many cheaper bands don't play music as a full-time occupation. They have day jobs and just play for fun at the weekends. The HYPS are professional musicians, they make their living out of music. So why does matter? Well, there is a big difference between a professional band like us and your local pub band. We are reliable and our reputation depends on it. We won't pull out the whole band if one of the members id ill or indisposed; we replace him/her with a equally talented professional without worrying you about it. We have had calls from frantic brides looking for a band for the next day, because the one they booked let them down. That has and never will happen with The HYPS.
